Meditation

For people in deep emotional pain, meditation can be both a very difficult process as well as a deeply healing process. People active in addictions oftenimages_woman_centered report being plagued by tangential thoughts. These clients are unable to focus or concentrate, and are often diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. It is common for people who have been using mind-altering substances to have intense fluctuations in moods and emotions and to meet the diagnostic criteria for depression, bipolar, or other mood disorders.

In the traditional medical model, psychotropic medications are very often part of the protocol for treating addiction and related disorders. Although these medications can have a positive result in the initial alleviation of the symptoms, they are not without unwanted and often-dangerous side effects.

The goal of meditation in the treatment of addictions is to teach clients to calm their racing thoughts and get in touch with their true and authentic nature.
