Assessment and Psychosocial Evaluation- Each client is given an assessment to determine the level of care
most appropriate for the individual and to determine any special needs the client may have during the treatment and recovery
process.
Individual Counseling- For those who do not necessarily need an intensive outpaient program or for those
who have completed the program but still need further help, we offer individual counseling.
Relationship Counseling- Many people come into treatment because their relationships have been significantly
damaged as a result of their substance abuse and related behaviors. We offer counseling to help repair damaged relationships
and to help develop healthy boundaries and coping methods.
Group Counseling- Education, peer support and accountability are powerful aspects of group counseling
that we use to move clients into positive lifestyle changes.

Adult Intensive Outpatient-In 2006 A New Approach Counseling Services became an Affiliate of The Right
Step. This affiliation enables us to offer our clients a full spectrum program from detox, residential treatment, intensive
outpatient and more. Our adult program is an innovative recovery program for adults 18 and above that lasts for 6 and
a half weeks followed by an on-going aftercare program. We understand that the recovering person needs a lot of
care and encouragement as they begin this process and that recovery takes time and patience. We utilize education,
individual, group and family counseling to address chemical dependency and related behaviors that caused pain and dysfunction
in the individual's life. Social events and twelve-step meetings are used to help the client develop supportive relationships
with other adults in recovery. Upon completion of the program we offer aftercare for on-going support.
Adolescent Group Counseling- We understand that adolescents and their families have different needs
than do adults. Positive peer support is an extremely effective way to get youth involved and excited about recovery.
When young people see their peers get honest about things they have been afraid to talk about it allows them to feel safe
and reveal their innermost thoughts and feelings, therefore beginning the road to recovery. We use art therapy,
social functions, individual, group and family counseling to address issues such as substance abuse, "cutting",
depression, academic problems and relationship issues that are common among this age group.
Michelle Swanson is our adolescent counselor. She brings with her a thorough understanding of addictions and related
behaviors as well as a true passion for working with adolescents and their familes. She assists young people in improving
their self image by developing coping skills and appropriate boundaries to deal with the pressures of being an adolescent
in today's world.
Family Education and Support Group- Parents, spouses and children have special needs too.
When kids come to counseling their parents are often scared, angry, confused and in need of answers. Communication is
typically difficult and parents aren't sure when to say yes, when to say no- or what to say for that matter. For clients
to get the most out of their recovery efforts, it is imperative that family members are involved. Our family group is
a source of education, support, hope and healing.
